There are many fluid art techniques, and each one creates a different mood.
One popular method is the dirty cup technique.Different colors are layered inside a cup and poured all at once. This creates strong contrasts, cells, and dynamic color breaks.
Another technique is layered pouring directly onto the canvas.Paint is added step by step, allowing colors to gently mix and slide into each other. The result is calmer, softer, and more atmospheric.
Some artists use air flow tools like a hair dryer or air blower. This pushes the paint across the surface, creating dramatic lines, waves, and motion. It adds direction and emotion to the artwork.
Each technique changes how the painting feels:
Cups → bold, energetic, expressive
Layers → calm, deep, balanced
Air flow → dynamic, emotional, powerful
That’s why fluid art is so versatile. The same colors can tell completely different stories depending on the technique.
